THE CHALLENGE

Everyone moves differently

The right way to control a wheelchair should be personal too. CoMoveIT develops solutions designed around different ways of moving and controlling — helping people drive with greater confidence, comfort and independence.

CURRENT GENERATION

CoMoveIT Flex

Advanced head control for complex movement disorders.

CURRENT GENERATION

CoMoveIT Drive

Smooth and precise wheelchair control.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

CoMoveIT Smart

Our proven head control system pioneering adaptive steering.

FRONT PAD
REAR PAD
01 — CONFIGURE

Built around the movements you already have.

Sensor pads are positioned along the array so every available movement becomes a usable command.

02 — FILTER

Intentional movement in, controlled driving out.

Flex interprets movement and filters out what was never intended as a driving command.

03 — CONTROL

Proportional or switched driving.

Smooth speed control that follows the movement, or discrete activation for switch-like control.

04 - PARTICIPATE

More than wheelchair control.

The same sensors give access to computer control, environmental control and gaming.

CoMoveIT Flex

Advanced head control for complex movement needs.

Not every head movement is intentional. CoMoveIT Flex is our most advanced and configurable head-control solution, designed for users who need more possibilities from their control system.

  • Auto-adapting to the user
  • Proportional or switched driving
  • Individually adjustable sensor sensitivity
  • Up to 9 configurable sensor pads
  • Integrated reverse and relax functions
  • Optional foot inputs
  • Direct access to gaming, AAC and computer
  • Easy to adjust

Built around the movements you already have.

Sensors are configured around the user's available movements. Hover a position to explore it.

HEAD-ARRAY
1 OF 6

Rearmost left pad

Backward head movement

Typically used for turning left and is intuitively activated by slightly tilting the head to the left.

Your movement in, controlled driving out.

Flex and Drive share the same hardware, but not the same intelligence. Drive smooths the commands a user already gives; Flex goes a step further and interprets movement, filtering out what was never intended.

INPUT

Intentional + involuntary

Every movement reaches the sensors, whether it was meant as a command or not.

PROCESSING

Learning your movement patterns

Flex learns how you move and distinguishes intentional driving commands from involuntary movements.

OUTPUT

Controlled driving response

What reaches the wheelchair is a calmer, more predictable driving command.

Proportional or switched driving.

Choose smooth speed control that follows the movement, or discrete activation for users who benefit from switch-like control.

SELECTED

Proportional driving

Smooth and precise speed control.

SELECT

Switched driving

Discrete activation for users who benefit from switch-like control.

Same head movement, two driving behaviours.

More than wheelchair control.

Same hardware, different control.

Drive smooths the commands a user already gives — ideal when movement is intentional but abrupt. Flex interprets movement and filters out what was never intended, which makes it the stronger choice for complex movement disorders.

COMOVEIT DRIVE

Smooths driving commands before they reach the wheelchair.

COMOVEIT FLEX

Smooths and filters — the most configurable CoMoveIT solution.

RAW COMMAND

Movement is rarely a straight line.

SMOOTHED COMMAND

Intelligent command smoothing.

CoMoveIT softens abrupt changes in real time while keeping control responsive.

WHERE IT ALL STARTEDBrochure

CoMoveIT Smart

Reliable head control for everyday mobility.

CoMoveIT Smart is our proven head-control system, designed for powered wheelchair users who need an alternative to conventional hand control.

  • First generation adaptive algorithm
  • Filters unintended movements
  • Stable wheelchair control
  • Switched driving
  • Head and foot input possibilities
  • Computer access
  • Straightforward clinical setup
  • Clinically developed

From head movement to stable control.

Speed follows the head movement the user makes, while unintended movements are filtered out.

Head movement→Sensor input→Adaptive processing→Stable control

Developed with clinicians. Grounded in evidence.

CoMoveIT Smart was developed through collaboration between clinicians, researchers and engineers, combining scientific research with real-world clinical experience.

The science behind CoMoveIT Smart

Research conducted at KU Leuven revealed important insights into powered wheelchair control for people with complex movement disorders:

  • Pressure sensors can serve two purposes: capturing individual movement patterns while simultaneously providing input to control a powered wheelchair.
  • Real-time adaptive algorithms can compensate for involuntary movements, translating fragmented steering signals into smoother wheelchair driving.
  • Less force and smaller movements improve control: clinical research demonstrated that reducing the physical effort required for steering is associated with better driving performance and more relaxed, therapeutic driving.

This white paper brings together the clinical and technological research that formed the scientific foundation of CoMoveIT Smart.
